名人英语演讲:" 国难当前，绝不屈服！”

         今天的独白选自2017年的电影《至暗时刻》（Darkest Hour）。电影讲述了首相丘吉尔在敦刻尔克撤退开始前面临的压力与抉择，并由名演员加里•奥德曼（Gary Oldman）饰演丘吉尔。凭借对丘吉尔栩栩如生的刻画，加里•奥德曼获得了2018年奥斯卡最佳男演员。

       温斯顿•丘吉尔（Winston Churchill）相信大家一定不会陌生。在2002年BBC“最伟大的100名英国人”调查评选中，他名列第一。在任职英国首相期间，他带领英国人民取得了二战的胜利。

       片段来自于丘吉尔最著名的下议院演讲"We shall never surrender"。当时，纳粹军队击败了法国，兵临城下，英国走入了最黑暗的时刻。而在关键时刻，丘吉尔在下议院大声疾呼，鼓舞了英国全体的民众，给国家注入了信心与希望。

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the... the grip of Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of the Nazi rule. 

       尽管欧洲大片的领土和许多古老闻名的国家，都已经或即将落入盖世太保和纳粹的丑恶统治机器中，

We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end! 

        但我们不能丧气退缩。我们要斗争到底！

We shall fight in France; we shall fight on the seas and oceans; we shall fight with- with growing confidence and growing strength in the air! We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be! 

        我们将在法国战斗，我们将在海洋中战斗。我们将以越来越大信心和力量在空中战斗！我们会不计一切代价保卫本岛！

We shall fight on the beaches; we shall fight on the landing grounds; we shall fight in the fields and in the streets; we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!

And if... 

       即使...

and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or large parts of it were... were subjugatedand starving, then our Empire, beyond the seas, arms and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle! 

        即使这座岛或者这座岛的大部分被征服并陷入饥饿之中——我从来不相信这样的事情会发生——我们的帝国将会由大英舰队的武装和保卫下，继续斗争！

Until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old!
