Kyle: Are you on the phone?

你在听吗？

Jessica: Yeah, but I’m on hold.

嗯，但我还有个通话保留。

Kyle: Do you have time for lunch?

有时间一起去吃午餐吗？

Jessica: Not right now. I’m trying to get a free upgrade on my rental car.

现在不行。我现在正在尝试免费升级我租的车。

Kyle: Are you having any luck?

进展如何呀？

Jessica: The rental car agent is talking to her supervisor right now.

租车代理员正在和她的主管沟通。

Kyle: How are you negotiating?

那你是怎么和她谈的？

Jessica: I told the agent that our company does a lot of business with this rental car company.

我跟她说我们公司和你们公司业务往来挺多的。

Kyle: You’re right. We do.

你说的对，我们确实是和她们有很多业务往来。

Jessica: Kyle, hold on. The agent is back on the phone.

凯尔，你先等一下，那个代理员回电话了。

要点笔记：

① are you on the phone用于打电话时，通常用于问别人“还在不在听，还在不在线”

② on hold：待机；等候对方接电话；通话保留/持；悬着；耽误着；拖延着；(暂时)保留。

③ free upgrade/,ʌp'ɡred/：免费升级

④ Are you having any luck”这个用法小茶也是第一次见到，这里问的是“进展如何”“有什么进展吗”，大家注意一下，也积累一下

⑤ supervisor ['supɚvaɪzɚ]：监督人，管理人，主管

⑥ negotiate [nɪ'ɡoʃɪet]：协商，谈判，商务英语用语；日常（生活）对话中一般不能用这个词
