简单短语，照样出彩（一）

1. hang up
Lily：I can’t believe that you hung me up after all I did for you.
莉莉:我不敢相信在我为你付出之后，你却把我晾在那儿。
Notes: hang up表面意思是“把……挂起”，在这里就是这个意思，不过用了比喻的修辞手法。例：
I hung up my jacket.
我把我的夹克衫挂起来。
除此之外，hang up还有“挂断电话”，“搁置，中止”的意思。例：
She hung up the phone.
她把电话挂断了。
Our plan has been hung up.
我们的计划被搁置了。
Their talks were hung up for five days.
他们的会谈中止了五天。
 
2. keep a secret
Lily: I kept your royal secret.
莉莉:我替你保守你是皇室公主的秘密。
Notes: keep a secret 保守秘密，例：
I can trust you to keep a secret.
我相信你可以保守秘密。
再好的朋友也可能会争吵，这段Mia好友的内心独白堪称经典。

3. blow up

Notes: blow up 爆发，爆炸，例：
Why did you blow up the house?
你为什么炸掉这个房子？
此外，口语中，blow up还可表示“发怒，责骂”。例：
He felt sorry he blew up at you.
他为对你发脾气感到抱歉。
My father will blow me up if I don’t finish my homework.
如果我不把作业做完，爸爸会骂我的。
 
4. go with anything
Mia：This is such a cute cheerleading outfit. It’s so clean-cut. I bet it goes with anything.
米亚：这件啦啦队队服真可爱，干净清爽，裁剪合身，我打赌它能搭配任何东西。
当某件衣服，饰品很好搭配时，我们就可以用go with anything这个短语。
Notes: go with:伴随，与…相配。例：
The scarf goes with your shirt.
这条丝巾和你的衬衫很配。


5.adapt to
Mia：Everybody’s got pre-coronation jitters including me. Everybody except Fat Louie. He’s totally adapted to being a royal.
米亚：包括我在内的每个人都为即将到来的加冕礼感到紧张，除了胖路易。他对皇室生活很适应。
Notes: adapt to:使适应，使适合
adapt oneself to: 让自己适应于，习惯于…
It's not easy to adapt to the weather in London.
