Should all Chinese middle and high school students be required to study English? Why or why not？

All Chinese middle and high school students should be required to study English.

Nowadays, middle and high school students in China are all required to study English. In their future life, some of them will use it frequently, some of them will use it sometimes, and some of them will never use it anymore. Though it seems useless for some people. I still think that learning English is necessary.

First of all, for those who want to pursue their farther studies in university at home or abroad, grasping the basic knowledge of English is definitely important. Since many theories in our textbooks come from western countries, students cannot understand their major well if they know nothing about English. Even if his major is Chinese culture, he also should know as much English as possible to read the books about other countries cultures, and from the comparison between different cultures, he can learn more. Besides, students cannot get bachelor’s degree without a CET4 certificate.

Secondly, more and more professions have requirements in English. If the students do not want further studies, English skill will be an important factor affecting the kind of job they will do, the salary they will get, and the possibility of promotion they will have. It also happens among. Students who get a bachelor, master, or doctor degree. And it is also the reason why many people spent a lot of money and time in improving their English in GLV, after working for some time.

Thirdly, it is required by modern life. If you want to enjoy TV programs or films in English, you should learn English; if you want to read books written in English, you should learn English; if you want to travel abroad, you should learn English. English exists everywhere in our life.

From what we have said, we can see English acts as an important tool in further studies，a good medium in life, and equals money and time in work. Excellent English ability can lead us to success not only in study and work, but also in life. And learning language is a gradual process which should begin as early as possible, so I insist all Chinese middle and high students should be required to study English.

所有的中国初、高中生都必须学习英语。

当今，在中国，所有的初高中生都必须学习英语。在他们未来的生活中，有些会很频繁的使用英语，有的偶尔也会用到，也有些是不会的。虽然英语对那些人一点用途都没，我还是认为学习英语是必须的。

首先，对于那些想到国内外大学继续深造学习的人来说，掌握英语基本的知识是非常必要的。因为我们教科书里很多的理论来源西方国家，如果英语不是很好的话，是不可能很好的理解这些课程的。就算他主修的是中文，他也应该尽可能多的懂英语，以便能学好必需的国外的文化。而且通过不同文化的比较，他也就能学的更多了。除此之外，没有通过大学的4级英语考试也不可能拿到学士学位的。
